Listen to the subtext here: “I wish I wasn’t losing the ability to connect with those I cherish; I wish I did not know what my future holds for me; I wish I could be independent but that seems impossible now; I wish I didn’t know what is going to disminish and the kill me; I wish I could always be me – but I am losing me; I wish I was a stronger person so I could cope with this better” ; etc, etc, etc. What she is longing for is a more control and more reassurance. And who isn’t longing for those things?
